Health insurance card with a chip

Swiss Post is producing the new health insurance card with a microchip, which will be valid as of 2010. The card can be expanded for trials aimed at networking players in the healthcare sector, as set out in the Confederation's eHealth strategy This chip card with the facility for digital signatures is also equipped with all other functions required of an electronic health card.

A data network for healthcare professionals in Geneva

The Canton of Geneva has tasked Swiss Post to lead a pilot project that electronically networks doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and professionals providing care in the community. In this role, Swiss Post is able to use its competencies in security technology and parts of its infrastructure. The pilot project aiming to network healthcare professionals in Geneva is planned to start in 2010This Swiss Post project will comply with the new legislation passed on 14 November 2008 by the Canton of Geneva on the protection of patient data.

Data processing for the healthcare sector

German Swiss Post subsidiary GHP has already achieved success in personalizing health insurance cards and health cards. It has been able to bring its expertise to eHealth IG discussions on how to implement eHealth technologies uniformly throughout Switzerland. Swiss Post is currently working with healthcare service providers on eHealth document management and data transfer projects.
