Logistics solutions for the healthcare sector
Swiss Post has been offering industry-specific logistics solutions to manufacturers and suppliers of medical and pharmaceutical products for many years and is also a reliable logistics partner providing services to hospitals, clinics and doctors' practices.
Health insurance card Plus
The first insurance cards were introduced in 2010 in accordance with the Swiss Health Insurance Law (KVG). It is designed to store administrative and medical data as well as personal emergency data. These data can only be stored on the card and read by people with valid health professional cards in a permitted professional category. Swiss Post has produced this card for Helsana, the largest health insurer in Switzerland. They are used to make cashless purchases of drugs and to facilitate contact with doctors and hospitals. They also simplify billing and administration for medical services. As part of cantonal model tests, there is the option of integrating access to a secure data network into the microchip. Swiss Post has already prepared its health insurance card Plus for an access code (X.509 personal certificate). It can thus be used for pilot tests for access to the electronic patient dossier, as provided for by the government’s eHealth strategy. In addition, it can be used for secure access to insured persons’ portals. The basis for paperless transactions with insured persons is thus in place.
A data network for healthcare professionals in Geneva
The Canton of Geneva has selected Swiss Post to lead a pilot project that electronically networks doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and professionals providing care in the community. In this role, Swiss Post is able to use its competencies in security technology and parts of its infrastructure. The new insurance cards, which Swiss Post has produced for Helsana, will be used in the project. The pilot for networking players in the healthcare sector in Geneva was implemented in October 2010 and will run until the end of 2011. This Swiss Post project will comply with the new legislation passed on 14 November 2008 by the Canton of Geneva on the protection of patient data.
Document management and data transfer
Service providers and cost centres in the healthcare sector depend on efficient electronic document solutions to digitize, electronically exchange and manage their data. These solutions must also guarantee data protection. With its "public key infrastructure" technology (secure identification of sender and recipient), Swiss Post can offer a tool for the secure, verifiable exchange of data.
Swiss Post already handles incoming mail management for SNAIF (Swiss National Accident Insurance Fund). By digitizing the incoming mail, it helps SNAIF to increase efficiency in customer care, as well as in the processing of its accident management.
