Swiss Post fulfils its basic service mandate, thus providing a modern and efficient public service in Switzerland. It provides the economy and the general public with a nationwide post office network and forwards consignments at uniform prices to the most remote regions of Switzerland. This high-quality basic service is primarily financed by means of a monopoly on letters up to 50 g.

Market deregulation in Switzerland

In summer 2008, interested parties and associations were able to give their opinion on the consultation draft. In May 2009, the Federal Council forwarded the draft to Parliament for further consideration. The Council of States is scheduled to debate the revision of the law in the 2009 winter session.
