Delivery robots in logistics

Parcel delivery over the last mile

Swiss Post became one of the first companies in Europe to test delivery robots for their suitability for goods delivery over the last mile. Swiss Post was able to collect valuable experience with the new technology in various locations with a range of different partners.

As customer requirements change, so too do the challenges facing logistics providers. At the same time, technical developments are continually opening up new possibilities. Swiss Post intends to take a leading role in pioneering new technologies and gain its own experience at an early stage. As well as drones, Swiss Post also tested the use of delivery robots to bolster existing logistics.

Delivery robots are suitable for consignments that need to be delivered flexibly, quickly and inexpensively in a local neighbourhood. This kind of ad-hoc logistics over the last mile is not currently covered by mail carriers, which is why delivery robots can provide a useful extension to the supply chain.

Delivery robots may in future be used in areas where it makes economic sense and is technically feasible. They will be an additional delivery option, supporting parcel carriers but not replacing them.

The Swiss Post early Label

The Swiss Post early Label stands for innovations which Swiss Post tests and develops together with its customers. New products or services are identified by the label and launched on the market at an early stage in order to obtain feedback and input for the purposes of further development.
