Top up iTunes credit in the PostFinance app

A Swiss innovation: PostFinance is the first financial institution in Switzerland to allow customers to top up their iTunes credit in its app. The top-up amount is debited from their postal account at the same time. This anytime, anywhere service is the latest innovation to be launched by PostFinance in mobile payment transactions and marks its first digital goods launch.

To use the service, customers need to have a postal account, an iTunes account and the PostFinance app installed on their mobile device. After registering for the "fast service" in the app, they can top up their iTunes credit – conveniently, anytime, anywhere. This is how it works with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch: open the PostFinance app, log into the fast service, "Purchase vouchers", select the provider iTunes, enter the chosen amount and click "Purchase voucher", "Redeem directly in iTunes".
Finally confirm in the iTunes Store which will open automatically. Done.

Credit within seconds

Customers can choose a set amount or top up a sum of their choice between 30 and 1,000 francs. The iTunes account is credited within seconds and the amount is automatically debited from the customer’s postal account at the same time if there are sufficient funds in the debit account. The credit can then be used to browse the Swiss iTunes Store and download apps, music, films and more. The new service is particularly suited to customers without credit cards as they will be able to top up their iTunes credit from a mobile device.

Digital goods – a growth market with great potential

This is PostFinance’s first experience of selling a digital good in its app and its first foray into a new market. It sees the digital goods market, and topping up virtual credit in particular, as a growth market with great potential.

Traditional payment transactions are currently undergoing a period of transition. Many non-banks are attempting to gain a foothold in the market for new, digital processes. PostFinance wants to defend its position as number one in Switzerland for payment transactions by offering innovative new services.

An innovative payment transactions provider

PostFinance continues to launch new products and services on the market, especially for payment transactions – its core business. It took its first steps in mobile payments back in 2006. PostFinance was rewarded for its efforts. Since 2007, customers have been able to use their mobile phones to make payments or transfer money between accounts. PostFinance became a Swiss pioneer in the sector with the launch of "Scan & Pay" in 2011. It is now venturing into the digital goods market with iTunes credit.
