PubliBike is represented throughout Switzerland with 115 stations and over 1,100 bikes and e-Bikes. The largest bike sharing provider is kicking off the season with four new services.

QuickPass on your smartphone

Customers can now use QuickPass to rent a PubliBike on the spur of the moment – a subscription is no longer needed. Customers can simply register online on the spot and use the code they receive to release their chosen bicycle or e-Bike. This also makes bike sharing easier for tourists. For the time being, this service is only available in the ten cities in German-speaking Switzerland that have PubliBike stations, as well as in Delémont. The stations in French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino do not have a screen, so PubliBike is developing another solution for spontaneous use at these stations.

BusinessPass for companies

PubliBike now also provides a new subscription service for companies, schools, hotels, cities and other institutions. They can provide their employees, visitors, and customers with this transferable BusinessPass. This annual ticket, which can be custom designed to suit the company, can also be used by hotels.

DayPass at train stations

PubliBike and its founding partner SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) are expanding the range of day passes. Starting May 5, customers can collect their bike-share day passes at SBB counters in four train stations – Nyon, Vevey, Yverdon, and Morges – after pre-ordering them online. This is a pilot project. The day pass costs CHF 10 and is valid for 24 hours. With the day pass, public transport users can get off the train and straight onto a bike to get to their meeting or destination.

PubliBike will also be a partner of the SwissPass public transport chip card scheduled to be launched by the Public Transport Union (VöV) in the second half of 2015.

New bikes

PubliBike Ltd and Swiss bicycle manufacturer TdS have teamed up to develop a bike that is specifically designed for bike sharing. It is robust yet weighs 5 kilograms less than the models currently used by PubliBike. The new bicycle is also available as an e-Bike.

Unlike staffed bike-rental services, with bike-sharing schemes customers can rent bikes or e-Bikes from self-service stations around the clock. The service is requested by municipalities or companies. 80 percent of PubliBike stations are located in French-speaking Switzerland. Lausanne has the largest PubliBike network in Switzerland with 23 stations. The largest network in German-speaking Switzerland is in Berne with 8 stations. In Ticino, PubliBike is represented in the region of Lugano with 10 stations so far. PostBus Switzerland Ltd is PubliBike Ltd’s parent company. It founded PubliBike in 2011 together with SBB and Rent a Bike. PostBus is a great believer in the idea of bike sharing as part of an attractive public transport service. It is convinced that this brand new service meets a growing need in the Swiss market.
