Stamps dedicated to tradition and joy

On 12 November 2015 Swiss Post is bringing out its fourth and final stamp issue of the year. As part of the issue, the comedy duo DivertiMento take centre stage in miniature format. The upcoming festive period is also featured: there are Christmas stamps and Pro Juventute special stamps to help get you in festive mood. And a miniature sheet for the traditional Stamp Day as well as the 2015 year book of Swiss stamps round off this issue.

A highlight of this year’s autumn issue is the celebrity stamp which features the members of the Swiss comedy duo DivertiMento, Jonny Fischer and Manuel Burkart. This year they became the first Swiss comedians to perform in front of a sellout crowd at the Hallenstadion in Zurich. Together with their graphic designer, Andreas Iten, they discussed some ideas for how the DivertiMento stamp could look. In the final result, the artists are playfully depicted as comic book figures in a circus ring.

Traditional: Christmas theme and Stamp Day

For the Christmas stamps, the visual designer Beatrice Würgler captures four festive themes, each inside a snow globe. There are also matching sets for the stamps, including Christmas cards and envelopes. The “Bethlehem 2015” traditional Christmas card with special cover and special stamp will also help get you in the festive spirit. Swiss Post is continuing the “Holy family” three-year stamp set with motifs from the biblical Christmas story. The envelope is franked with the one-franc stamp from the current Christmas series.

This year, the traditional Stamp Day is taking place between 26 and 29 November in Espace Gruyère in Bulle and will be accompanied by the Timbr@phil’15 exhibition. Swiss Post is releasing a miniature sheet to mark the occasion, featuring two architectural masterpieces from the region: the 118-metre-high Gibloux tower and the two-kilometre-long Gruyère motorway viaduct, which spans Lake Gruyère.

Give the gift of joy

The Pro Juventute foundation is continuing the “Family traditions” series that began in 2014 with three more special stamps with surcharge. As he did last year, the Basel-born cartoonist Nicolas d’Aujourd’hui captures scenes featuring Swiss customs at Advent. You can purchase them as individual stamps or as a practical, credit-card-sized stamp booklet made up of four B Mail stamps and eight A Mail stamps. The proceeds from the surcharge go, as always, to projects supported by Pro Juventute.

As it does every year before Christmas, Swiss Post is publishing the year book of Swiss stamps with all the original stamps and issue postmarks of the stamps issued by Swiss Post in 2015. The stamps and the stories that go along with them make this book a real mirror of the times. Exclusively available this year: the black print of the special stamps featuring Swiss automobiles.
