Despite taking the best of care, damage can occur to letters or packages when sending. This is annoying. Swiss Post wants to make it even easier for customers to report proof of damage to a consignment – from the convenience of their own home using a smartphone camera.

Here’s how it works

The customer reports the damage within eight days. 

The Swiss Post employee sends a link to the customer’s smartphone via SMS, during the phone call or at an agreed time.

After opening the link, an encrypted connection and live camera feed starts.

The Swiss Post employee can view the consignment via the camera.

Once the connection has ended, access cannot be reactivated.

The customer still has the option of bringing the damaged consignment to a branch.

Promising technology

Swiss Post is testing the “EmergencyEye” technology, developed by the company Corevas as a convenient way to report damage via smartphone. It was originally designed for sharing initial images of an emergency situation and has already been successfully implemented in a number of control rooms in Germany.
