Up to now, Swiss Post has operated two warehouses in the Basel area – in Muttenz and Arlesheim. As the two logistics centres were no longer sufficient to meet its requirements, Swiss Post decided to replace them and to focus on a new location in Pratteln.

All-round logistics services in Pratteln

At its new logistics centre in Pratteln, Swiss Post will provide a full range of logistics services. Bulk storage, shelf storage and small parts warehouses enable optimum storage solutions. In addition, the Pratteln site will also offer "value-added services" such as labelling, price labelling and shrink-wrapping. The logistics centre has its own railway platform for up to 6 rail wagons. As of spring 2012, it will also be possible to store pharmaceutical products and hazardous goods in Pratteln.

Cross-border logistics

Swiss Post is a valued logistics partner for international business customers too. Employees of PostLogistics, Swiss Post's logistics unit, handle around 30,000 customs clearance procedures of small consignments a year. As an approved recipient and mailer in Switzerland, Swiss Post clears goods directly in its logistics centres. As with the other warehouses, the new site is also located in a population centre. This enables Swiss Post to offer the best possible delivery times while also helping to reduce CO2 emissions thanks to shorter routes.

Hazardous goods warehouse also in Villmergen

As well as the Pratteln logistics centre, Swiss Post operates a warehouse in Villmergen where hazardous goods are stored and managed. This has been operating since the beginning of April 2011 on the basis of a provisional operations permit. After assessing the site again, the authorities have now granted an official operations permit for the hazardous goods warehouse from the end of October 2011. The state-of-the-art infrastructure for storage of hazardous goods meets the highest safety requirements based on the latest Ordinance on Protection Against Major Accidents.

Leader in the logistics market

Swiss Post is the largest logistics provider in Switzerland. As well as courier, express and parcel mail, PostLogistics, Swiss Post's logistics unit, also transports small goods punctually and reliably. Warehouse logistics rounds off Swiss Post's range of services.

Swiss Post currently operates 10 warehouses throughout Switzerland with total storage space of around 134,000 m2. Warehouse locations: Villmergen, Daillens, Berne, St. Gallen, Cadenazzo, Mägenwil, Urdorf, Dintikon, Pratteln (new), Muttenz (until spring 2012)
