Switzerland's state-of-the art post office set to open
The reopening of the Horgen 1 post office on 17 October 2011 will provide Swiss Post with another flagship in its post office network. Customers can benefit from the full range of postal and financial services under one roof. Swiss Post has created a modern design with open counters and a central waiting area. Other similar post offices are due to open by spring 2012 – one in Martigny and one in Köniz.

Over the past eight months, Horgen's main post office has been transformed into Switzerland's first post office with integrated consulting services from PostFinance. After the reopening on 17 October, Swiss Post will offer customers a modern shopping experience with its full range of postal and financial services under one roof. At the new post office, customers will be served at six open counters. There is also a quick advice counter for customers interested in PostFinance products, with four separate rooms available for more extensive, individual financial consultations. Customers can purchase a wide range of brand-name items from the shop. The different sections are arranged around a waiting area with comfortable seating. The post office also features P.O. box facilities, a Postomat and a business customer counter. Swiss Post has invested around CHF 4 million in renovating the post office. In spring 2012, Martigny and Köniz will be the next two municipalities to receive an integrated post office. If the new locations prove to be successful, Swiss Post will examine the possibility of more post offices based on this model.
Changing customer behaviour, new access points
Swiss Post is constantly developing its network of post offices, which includes Horgen. Once the main post office has reopened, the Horgen 2 post office in Oberdorf will close. Instead, a Migrolino store with integrated postal agency ("Swiss Post at a partner firm") opened at Oberdorf station in mid-May. The shop is open from early in the morning to late at night, 365 days a year. Customers can hand in or collect letters and parcels, buy stamps and withdraw money during the full opening hours. Horgen 3 post office will also be replaced by a postal agency in the Waldegg Center as of 24 October 2011. This also provides the option of making cashless inpayments using a PostFinance Card or bank Maestro card.
The reorganization of postal services in Horgen has been agreed with the local authorities. It reflects the changes in customer behaviour, as fewer and fewer letters, parcels and payments are coming in over the conventional post office counter. At the same time, the financial products from PostFinance are attracting increasing interest among Swiss Post customers.
Over 3,600 access points
Swiss Post boasts one of the densest networks of access points in the world. On 14 October 2011 it had more than 3,608 customer access points with 1,873 post offices, 411 agencies ("Swiss Post at a partner firm"), 1,221 home delivery services ("Swiss Post on the doorstep"), 99 PickPost points and 4 in-house mail solutions. Compared with 2005, Swiss Post has created more than 80 additional access points.
