Swiss Post has acquired the software company Scalaris AG; its headquarters are located in Glattbrugg, Switzerland and it operates in both Switzerland and Germany. The parties have agreed to maintain confidentiality over the purchase price. Scalaris develops and markets software solutions for digitalising and processing documents. The takeover will allow Swiss Post Solutions, the Swiss Post Group unit, to complement and strengthen its expertise and solutions in this field. The acquisition will strengthen Swiss Post’s position in the «business process outsourcing» (BPO) market in the area of document management. The takeover will also confirm Swiss Post’s role as an intermediary that provides its customers with solutions at the interface between the physical and digital world.

Expanding the document solutions portfolio

As part of BPO, Swiss Post Solutions is taking on the entire document processing procedure for its customers: from handling physical in-house mail to digitalising business documents, extracting data and assigning documents electronically, right up to printing output and electronic archiving. Swiss Post Solutions is also using standardised processing procedures and is basing its services on its own software solutions. By purchasing the software specialist Scalaris, Swiss Post’s Group unit will be able to expand its product portfolio and further develop its customer relations. Swiss Post Solutions is strengthening its position in Switzerland, in particular by working with banking and insurance companies, and is using Scalaris’ strong market position in Germany to its full advantage. In Germany Scalaris is now a leading provider of digitalising platforms for processing large volumes of documents in big companies.

Business process outsourcing

Swiss Post Solutions, the Swiss Post Group unit, supports companies as a comprehensive solution provider by taking on entire business processes or partial processes outside of the company’s core business. The BPO offer includes solutions for finance & accounting and loyalty as well as for document management, mailroom management and office services.
