Swiss Post and trade unions enter into negotiations for new CEC

On 15 August, Swiss Post, the trade union syndicom and the staff association transfair will start negotiating a new collective employment contract (CEC) for Swiss Post staff. This was agreed at a meeting held by leaders of the social partners, who entrusted their delegations with the task of opening negotiations. Swiss Post’s new CEC is expected to be ready by the end of 2014 and should come into force in 2015.

According to the new postal legislation applicable, which came into force at the end of 2012, Swiss Post is obliged to negotiate a collective employment contract with the trade unions within two years of the conversion of Swiss Post into a public limited company. The current CEC is over ten years old. The work environment has changed significantly during this time. The negotiations therefore represent an opportunity to modernize the CEC and adapt it to meet future challenges. Both the interests of the company and the concerns of employees should be taken into account. It is indisputable that Swiss Post aims to remain a socially responsible, attractive employer and will continue to offer fair working conditions in the future. During a meeting held by the leaders of the social partners, their negotiation delegations were entrusted with the task of opening negotiations on 15 August 2013.

Individual employment contracts subject to the CEC will remain unchanged

While the current CEC Swiss Post remains in force, nothing will change in principle for employees as far as their employment conditions are concerned. All existing employment contracts will continue as before. The only change is that the civil courts are now responsible in the event of labour law disputes between employees and their employer. Staff will not receive a new individual employment contract until the new collective employment contract comes into force.

Negotiations not to be made public

All the social partners are eager to hold fair negotiations in partnership. Negotiations will not be made public. The social partners will announce the results of the negotiations in due course.
