Santa received a record number of letters

As every year, Santa Claus was able to rely on strong support from Swiss Post employees during Advent last year. Swiss Post helped Santa to answer exactly 18,386 children’s letters (previous year: 17,149).

The majority – 10,133 replies – were sent to Western Switzerland, 2,655 to Ticino and 2,351 to German-speaking Switzerland. 2,284 replies were sent to children abroad, thereof 1,908 to overseas. The six-strong Swiss Post team supporting Santa in Chiasso went to great pains to reply even to letters with incomplete or incorrect sender details. As a result, over 96 percent or 17’686 of all children’s letters were answered along with a small present.

Swiss Post is proud to have once again had the privilege of fulfilling this wonderful task during the Christmas season – thanks to the commitment of its employees. For more than 60 years, letters to Santa have been read by Santa’s team, sorted by language, and – the quality of the sender’s address permitting – answered in one of the four national languages, as well as in English.

During the first children’s letters campaign in 1950/51, Swiss Post received 450 letters, including 250 from abroad.
