High level of motivation in difficult market environment

Swiss Post’s staff have again awarded it high scores as an employer this year. Staff motivation levels remain high. With the exception of employee satisfaction, the Group results remain the same, with commitment, work situation and customer focus unchanged at a high level. Of the 48,000 employees from more than 15 countries polled, almost 80 percent took part in the employee satisfaction survey.

Employees regard Swiss Post as an attractive employer. At average to high levels, the results of the employee satisfaction survey remain similar to the previous year. Employees remain highly committed (82 points as in the previous year) and continue to show very high levels of motivation (86 points as in the previous year). Both customer focus (79 points) and unit fitness* (73 points) also remain stable at the same high level. The high level of commitment among staff is also reflected in the highest ever response rate for completed questionnaires, at 79.2 percent (78.1 percent in the previous year). At 76 points, the overall work situation was also rated just as highly as the previous year. Various factors are relevant for rating the work situation, including working conditions and workload or ability to contribute to the company and personal responsibility.

Core business under pressure

At the same time, employees are aware of the increasingly difficult market environment: declining letter volumes, higher competitive pressure in the logistics business and changing customer requirements have their effect on the working environment. Swiss Post must defend and continue to develop its core markets in order to remain competitive at the interface between physical and digital services and retain its ability to meet changing customer requirements. Employees sense this challenging competitive situation and its impact on the Group. Overall, employee satisfaction fell after five years by one point to 74 points, taking it just outside the high positive range.

48,000 employees surveyed

In May 2016, Swiss Post surveyed around 48,000 Group employees in 15 countries. The same measurement model with over 60 questions was used for the eighth time in a row and the poll was carried out by an independent survey company. Results from 60 to 74 points are considered an “average positive” rating, while values between 75 and 84 points are rated “high positive”.
