Send Christmas parcels inexpensively and on time

On Christmas Eve, every parcel should be in its place under the Christmas tree. Swiss Post’s employees work hard to make sure this happens. And in the month leading up to Christmas, the cost of sending parcels will be reduced by 1 franc. As new record volumes are expected, customers are advised to mail their Christmas parcels early, rather than waiting until the last minute.

If you buy your gift on Black Friday, but oversleep on Saturday, you can still send your parcel on Monday – and it will even cost you 1 franc less. This was agreed upon jointly by Swiss Post and the price regulator. Good news for your wallet, because the Christmas discount applies to all private customer parcels within Switzerland and lasts for a whole month: from 26 November up to and including 24 December 2018.

The sorting systems at Swiss Post run at near full capacity in the run-up to Christmas. On peak days, around 1.3 million parcels pass through the sorting centers. Swiss Post ensures that all hands are on deck, and mail carriers work on peak form, showing how well Swiss Post is capable of performing. Additional employees lend support during this demanding period.

Parcels and letters should also be sent in good time. Customers who want to send a parcel at the discounted rate on the Friday before Christmas (21 December) can generally do so in Swiss Post branches until noon. The parcel will still find its way to the right Christmas tree, unless road and rail traffic are disrupted by weather conditions. To ensure that everyone has a merry Christmas, the last possible dates for mailing parcels and letters are listed below.
