Swiss Post issues its second crypto stamp in partnership with the Locarno Film Festival

After the success of the first crypto stamp in 2021, Swiss Post is launching Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0. The second Swiss crypto stamp collection has been created in partnership with the Locarno Film Festival, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. As part of this celebration, the digital versions of the physical stamps will be issued as film clips. In these clips, ten young film-makers have interpreted the different values and symbols of Switzerland. The second crypto stamp collection will be available from selected branches and at postshop.ch from 8 August 2022, with an issue of 250,000 stamps.

The first Swiss crypto stamp collection was launched on 25 November 2021 and was a great success. The issue of 175,000 stamps sold out within five hours. Now the second generation will be issued on 8 August 2022: Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0. Through this new crypto stamp, Swiss Post is once again connecting traditional philately with the digital world. Just like the first crypto stamp, the new edition will also consist of two parts. The first part is made up of ten physical stamps worth nine francs, while the second contains the accompanying digital image for each stamp. The crypto stamps and their digital “twins” are saved in a blockchain and are uniquely identifiable. They can also be collected, swapped and traded – just like traditional stamps.

Artists reinterpret ten symbols of Switzerland for Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0

The second crypto stamp collection depicts ten different designs reflecting the various values of Switzerland, such as solidarity, sustainable thinking, peace and diversity. Placed next to each other, the ten designs form a larger picture. Swiss Post is launching Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0 in partnership with the Locarno Film Festival, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. To commemorate this event, the digital images of the crypto stamps will be released in the form of short film clips produced by Swiss film-makers, who used the values and symbols depicted on the physical stamps as their inspiration. Unlike the first Swiss Crypto Stamp, customers will know which physical stamps and accompanying digital image they will receive as they make the purchase. As a special bonus, Swiss Post will this time hold a prize draw for 50 copies of an exclusive digital version of the crypto stamp.

Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0 is dedicated to young Swiss film-makers

The collaboration with the Locarno Film Festival is very important to Swiss Post CEO Roberto Cirillo: “In partnership with the Locarno Film Festival, we are connecting the world of stamps and the world of film to a unique product. By creating the film clips, we wanted to support young, up-and-coming artists and provide them with a new platform.” Marco Solari, President of the Locarno Film Festival, says: “Following the Swiss National Bank, which in 2017 selected the Locarno Film Festival to appear on the 20-franc bank note as a symbol of Switzerland’s creativity, Swiss Post is also showing its ties to our cultural event once again. It has previously released a stamp to mark the festival’s 70th anniversary, featuring the classic image of the Locarno leopard. Swiss Post has been a sponsor and partner of the film festival for many years. By releasing the crypto stamp, it is also showing that it believes in the future development of our festival.”

Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0 will be issued on 8 August 2022, with an issue of 250,000 stamps. There will be 25,000 stamps for each of the ten different designs. The crypto stamps will be available in physical form at selected Swiss Post branches from this date. Customers can also order them in all self-operated Swiss Post branches and at postshop.ch.
