Letters, parcels and newspapers delivered on time – Swiss Post clearly exceeded service quality targets in 2022
Last year, the Swiss population was once again able to rely on Swiss Post. 97.2 percent of A Mail letters and 99.3 percent of B Mail letters arrived in private letter boxes on time. 95.7 percent of Priority parcels and 96.9 percent of Economy parcels were delivered on time by Swiss Post staff. In doing so, Swiss Post clearly exceeded all of the Confederation’s delivery time targets. At 98.8 percent, it also succeeded in meeting targets for newspaper delivery, which was measured for the first time last year.

2022 was the year with the second highest parcel volume in the history of Swiss Post – and yet deliveries were still made on time. Staff sorted and reliably delivered 194 million parcels to all regions of Switzerland. While doing this, they were faced with various challenges. For example, higher-than-average volume fluctuations made it difficult to plan and, in turn, ensure punctual delivery. Swiss Post was also directly affected by the problems in international supply chains caused by the coronavirus pandemic. This delayed the planned expansion of the parcel sorting infrastructure. “Despite various challenges, Swiss Post demonstrated last year that it can be relied upon. By delivering on time, we’ve justified the public’s trust in us. My thanks go to all our staff throughout Switzerland”, says Johannes Cramer, Head of Logistics Services and member of Executive Management.
Measured for the first time: newspaper deliveries achieve high level of punctuality
The figures prove Swiss Post’s reliability. Last year, 1,745 billion addressed letters were sent. 97.2 percent of A Mail letters and 99.3 percent of B Mail letters were delivered on-time to customers’ private letter boxes. The figure for A Mail increased slightly by +0.2 percent, while the figure for B Mail remained at the same level as in 2021. This means Swiss Post exceeded the requirements of postal legislation. The Confederation stipulates that Swiss Post must meet the target of 97 percent of letters delivered on time. Swiss Post also clearly surpassed the target for parcels, where the benchmark is 95 percent. Mail carriers delivered 95.7 percent of Priority parcels and 96.9 percent of Economy parcels on time. Compared to the previous year, this represents an increase of +0.7 percent (Priority parcels) and +1 percent (Economy parcels). For the first time, Swiss Post has also measured how punctually newspapers are delivered to their recipients. By achieving an on-time delivery rate of 98.8 percent, Swiss Post staff have also clearly exceeded the Confederation's target of 95 percent in this area. The measurement covered the delivery of newspapers in areas without early-morning delivery with a delivery deadline of 12.30 p.m. Swiss Post is required to do this as of 2022.
In 2022, all 12 months were recorded
Delivery time measurement served as the basis for the 2022 punctuality figures. For 52 weeks, an independent inspection agency within Swiss Post evaluates the data for all individual parcel consignments and all subscription newspapers. For letters, an independent institute evaluates data from around 65,000 test consignments throughout the year. The results are reviewed and approved by the supervisory authority PostCom, Last year, records were taken in full again over all 12 months. In 2021, PostCom limited the relevant measurement period for parcels to eight months. Four months were considered subject to the pandemic as a force majeure event and were therefore excluded.
