Swiss Post customers can now frank their letters and postcards with motifs of Swiss sights such as the Matterhorn or the Landwasser Viaduct on the Albula line. The Jet d'eau in Geneva and the Rigi are also depicted. Swiss Post is dedicating stamps to a total of four Swiss sights. Anyone who scans the stamp with the Post-App can take part in a competition and win the main prize of a trip within Switzerland.
As wise as an owl
The fox is considered cunning, the donkey stubborn – this is how animals are described in fairy tales and fables. What other characteristics are attributed to animals? Swiss Post has dedicated four stamps to this topic. They depict animals such as the seven-spotted ladybird – one of the best-known symbols of happiness and hope – and the long-eared owl. The latter symbolises intelligence, wisdom and intuition. Scanning the animal stamps with the Post-App takes you to a memory game that teaches you further information on animal symbolism.
A plant? Or a human organ?
The significance of the stamp by artist Mirko Baselgia is more subtle. He won a design competition as part of Swiss Post’s commitment to art. The artist explores the connection between humans, animals and plants. His stamp depicts an upside-down windpipe that resembles the outline of a tree. Mirko Baselgia made the ink that he used to create the shape on paper himself. This stamp marks the start of the new series of art stamps that reflect Swiss Post’s commitment to art.
