Paddington Bear and Globine: the latest stamps are dedicated to children’s book characters

A bear with a red hat and blue raincoat and a human parrot with a blue body, yellow beak and striking red and black striped leggings: the two children’s book characters Paddington and Globine are the stars of the latest stamps. At the same time, the Christmas stamps impart a wintery atmosphere. The traditional or digital stamps will be available at all branches and in the Swiss Post online shop from 7 November 2024.

The British children’s book character Paddington Bear first appeared in a story in 1958. The bear with a red hat, blue raincoat and a penchant for marmalade sandwiches has found a fan base worldwide. He first appeared on the big screen in 2014. The third movie “Paddington in Peru” is due out in January 2025. To mark the release of the new film, Swiss Post is celebrating the famous bear with the issue of two A Mail and B Mail stamps.

Two book covers in stamp format

Globine may not be known worldwide, but in Switzerland she is very much part of our childhood. After depicting her male counterpart Globi on stamps in 1997 and 2020, Swiss Post is now also celebrating Globine – on one A Mail and one B Mail stamp. Globi books have regularly been among the best-selling children’s books in Switzerland since 1932. Globine appeared for the first time in 1988. For this special issue, Globine illustrator Samuel Glättli has created two book covers in stamp format.

Christmas stamps with winter landscapes

Snowflakes falling from the sky and warm lights: the scenes on this year’s Christmas stamps show idyllic winter landscapes through stylized windows in the form of Christmas symbols. The stamps are the winners of a public vote. As of 1 December, anyone who scans the stamps using the Post-App will find an Advent calendar with a puzzle every day.

You can find information on other designs in the current issue and details about the new stamps in the latest edition of the collector’s magazine “Focus on stamps” or at swisspost.ch/stamps.
