“I can see in my day-to-day work that the 2 x Christmas campaign is close to the hearts of many people in Switzerland. Those making or distributing presents and other volunteers who lend a hand have known each other for many years and look forward to this time of sorting in the logistics department at SRC, as it almost feels like a big family reunion when they join us.

Precious gifts

Between 24 December 2019 and 11 January 2020, we collect non-perishable foods and personal hygiene products to help people affected by poverty in Switzerland as part of 2 x Christmas, as well as online parcels for winter aid projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova and Kyrgyzstan.

The recipients are very pleased with the food and personal hygiene products – coffee, cooking oil and dental hygiene products, for example, are very expensive, and receiving these items as gifts eases the strain on budgets. It means they have a little left over for things they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford: such as a train trip to visit grandparents, entry to a zoo or an electricity bill.

Grateful for hot soup

I sometimes receive a letter or card from the recipients, which I always find very touching and it shows me that our help is appreciated.
In foreign countries, we provide winter aid by sending online parcels from 2 x Christmas to support soup kitchens, for instance. This aid means the needy can get through the winter a little more easily – warming their bellies with a meal and their hearts with gratitude.
