Sustainable and fair clothing: Swiss Post comes out on top
Swiss Post is leading the way in Switzerland when it comes to fair production and working conditions for clothing. The international Fair Wear Foundation awarded the company “Leader” status for the sixth time in a row this year.
In 2018, Swiss Post procured some 82,000 pieces of clothing, purchasing 96 models in a wide range of sizes from 17 factories in 10 countries. And it does so with great commitment: in 2012, as Switzerland’s leading major corporation, Swiss Post signed the declaration for membership of the Fair Wear Foundation. As a member, Swiss Post is committed to strict inspection and sustainable implementation of social standards at its clothing suppliers.
Swiss Post has held “Leader” status for its sustainable clothing commitment since 2014. This means it is leading the way in Switzerland and is one of the most prominent organizations worldwide with regard to implementing stringent social standards among manufacturers and ensuring compliance with human rights. The award is both an acknowledgement and an encouragement, explains Jan-Patrick Willmes, Head of Procurement: “Sustainability at Swiss Post is in line with our values: responsible, excellent and innovative. In terms of responsible procurement at Swiss Post, we define sustainable development as the way to achieve profitable, long-term growth. Our sustainable business practices are based on integrity, fairness, transparency and responsibility. That is our claim.”
Swiss Post was awarded “Leader” status for the sixth time in a row this year. Compared to last year, its score increased by 2 points to a total of 77.
