They’re Swiss Post yellow, compact and original: these are the two vehicles Swiss Post is showcasing at the special exhibition at this year's BEA spring fair in Bern from 3 to 12 May. The special exhibition is organized by the Canton of Bern together with other exhibitors. It aims to familiarize visitors with the topic of net zero. The vehicles are DXCargo electric three-wheelers, which mail carriers use to transport letters and parcels, and the accessible hybrid-powered London taxi, which runs on demand and is part of the PostBus electric fleet.
It’s no surprise that Swiss Post is represented at the special exhibition. After all, it is pursuing an ambitious climate and energy target: Switzerland wants to achieve the net zero target by 2050, Swiss Post by 2040. This means, by 2040, Swiss Post will have reduced its emissions across the entire value chain by 90 percent compared to 2021 and removed unavoidable residual emissions from the atmosphere.
With over 7,000 electric delivery vehicles, Swiss Post operates the largest electric fleet in Switzerland. In Bern, Zurich and Geneva alone, its e-vehicles serve almost 1.5 million households. This saves 2,012 tonnes of CO2 every year, which is equivalent to travelling 252 times around the Earth by car.
PostBus began converting its fleet to fossil-free drive systems at the end of 2016. Today, there are around 50 hybrid and 24 electric buses on Swiss roads.
