An elderly man in a shirt is standing in a Swiss Post branch, holding a smartphone. “I haven’t had it for long and don’t quite know how to use it yet,” he says. “I wanted to redirect a consignment, but I couldn’t get it to go where I wanted it to. My son doesn’t have time to help me.” No problem. The customer advisor takes the time to explain how it’s done.
This gentleman isn’t alone when it comes to these things: many people in Switzerland don’t feel confident when tackling all things digital. According to the Swiss Digital Inclusion Alliance, more than a fifth of the Swiss population lack basic digital skills. Senior citizens aged 75 and over and those with little education are particularly affected. It means children, neighbours and acquaintances often have to become digital helpers. They show how things work, though frequently feel under time pressure doing so. Swiss Post aims to help and is offering support for the less digitally savvy.
Digital support at Swiss Post branches
Customers can request support with using digital devices at all self-operated Swiss Post branches. Whether it’s setting up a smartphone or laptop, installing TWINT or filling out an online form, Swiss Post’s expert staff will take the time to explain the process step by step. Customers can drop in at any time and ask their questions.
