Interim results for 2025: solid performance in a challenging environment

In the first six months of 2025, Swiss Post generated operating profit (EBIT) of 118 million francs. This is in line with expectations, but well below the previous year’s level. The main reasons for this are the continuing decline in letter volumes and over-the-counter transactions, coupled with rising costs.

Swiss Post continues to be on a sound financial footing. However, the challenges it faces in its core business, and the costs they entail, are evident in the interim results. While revenue (operating revenue) is only slightly lower than in the first half of the previous year, operating profit at 118 million francs (−29 percent) and Group profit at 74 million francs (−44 percent) are well below the previous year’s results.

Letter volumes continue to decline, parcel volumes increase

As expected, the decline in letter volumes continued, falling by 4.9 percent in the first half of the year. Other physical mail items such as newspapers and unaddressed advertising also saw declining volumes, as did over-the-counter transactions in branches. It is encouraging that the parcel market in Switzerland has grown again for the first time in three years. Our parcel volumes increased by 3.4 percent – a positive sign for logistics. At the same time, our customers are increasingly using digital solutions such as the Post-App and online services. Passenger numbers for our mobility solutions also rose, and now exceed 95 million passengers. These trends show that Swiss Post is on the right track as it combines physical and digital services in its efforts to meet customers’ requirements.

Towards the Swiss Post of tomorrow

To ensure that it can continue providing a high-quality universal service from its own resources, Swiss Post is investing for example in modern logistics centers, secure digital communication solutions and user-friendly online services. Efficiency and price adjustments are strengthening its economic basis and creating room for innovation. These steps are part of the future-oriented “Swiss Post of tomorrow” strategy. However, to continue responding successfully to the changing needs of customers in the future, Swiss Post requires, in addition to its own efforts, a modern regulatory framework. The key points on the revision of the Postal Services Act recently presented by the Federal Council are an important step in this direction.

The interim results reflect solid performance. The familiar challenges, however, remain in place. Thanks to modern products and customer-oriented services, Swiss Post is ensuring it can make everyday life easier for companies, institutions and the public with its physical and digital services. This is precisely why it is acting with foresight and developing a modern public service that meets the real needs of its customers.
