Why Swiss Post is increasing prices
Price adjustments and efficiency measures are important factors in enabling Swiss Post to ensure a nationwide and reliable public service in the long term. Recent calculations show that the financial burden placed on Swiss Post by the universal service is constantly increasing due to declining letter volumes and over-the-counter transactions, and currently amounts to over 360 million francs. The cost drivers also include investment in modern infrastructure or new technologies. This is the only way for Swiss Post to ensure the quality of its services. Swiss Post absorbs a large proportion of these costs through internal efficiency measures and passes only marginal parts on to its customers. Nevertheless, a few moderate price adjustments are unavoidable. Swiss Post has therefore concluded an amicable settlement with the price regulator for 2026. Despite the challenges, it remains clear that Swiss Post wants to continue playing an important role in the everyday lives of the population in the future. This is precisely why it is continually working on itself and making its processes more efficient.
