Neel Jani with Sébastien Buemi. The two shake hands.

Neel JaniTarget not accessible, you are joining Formula E as a driver for Porsche at the end of the year. How are you preparing for this?

We have been in a test phase since the end of March. Our main focus for the Formula E cars is checking vehicle stability and maximum performance. In the simulator, the software and route guidance are our top priorities.

What is different about the driving experience in an electric racing car?

E-racing cars accelerate unbelievably quickly from the start line thanks to the torque. If I want the best lap time, I have to adjust my driving line accordingly. Apart from that, not much is different for the driver.

Why did you make the move to Formula E?

I am still involved in motorsports – I’ve just changed category. Porsche decided to switch from the 24 Hours of Le Mans to Formula E. Naturally, I couldn’t turn this opportunity down.

Formula E has received its share of criticism. What is your response to this?

Criticism comes with the territory. But it boils down to a simple question: does Formula E have potential and can it contribute new ideas which will help to improve mobility? If people are asking this question, then Formula E has fulfilled its purpose.

How do you travel in your personal life?

I am excited about the new Porsche Taycan, the first fully electric Porsche set to hit the market at the end of 2019!
