Fact 1

Regional passenger transport is at the heart of PostBus’sTarget not accessible activities. These services are ordered from transport companies by the Confederation and the cantons. Any uncovered costs are compensated. This means that all villages with at least 100 inhabitants are integrated into the public transport system. Along with rail transport, this creates a finely meshed public transport network in all regions of Switzerland.

Fact 2

PostBus also operates in local transport and provides school bus and rail replacement services. In addition, it provides system services for public transport, such as solutions for ticket control, payment collection and passenger counting.

Fact 3

By fulfilling these core public transport tasks, PostBus is contributing to the social, economic and ecological benefits of public transport and the high quality of life in Switzerland.

Fact 5

RPT has achieved strong growth over the past ten years. This has also had an impact on PostBus: in 2008, PostBus transported 115 million passengers; by 2019, the figure had risen to around 167 million. A decline was recorded in 2020, the year of coronavirus. Around 127 million passengers were transported during that year.

Fact 6

As the largest public transport company on Swiss roads with 2,400 vehicles, PostBus has a special responsibility in the area of sustainability. 100 Postbuses with alternative drive systems are planned to be in use by 2024. The aim is for all 2,400 Postbuses to be fossil-free by 2040.

Fact 7

The current regional transport system has categorically proved its worth. However, the Confederation, the cantons and the public transport companies need to consider which innovations are possible and how they can be financed in the subsidized market for the benefit of customers.
