Universal postal services

Postal services for all. Nationwide.

The Postal Services Act and Postal Ordinance set out the scope of the universal service obligation and the quantitative and qualitative requirements to be met with respect to the transport and delivery of addressed letters and parcels, newspapers and magazines, and payment transaction services: Swiss Post must deliver letters and parcels at least five days a week and subscription daily newspapers six days a week in all permanently inhabited areas in Switzerland. The prices for these services must be irrespective of distance. Swiss Post must deliver subscription regional and local newspapers and magazines as well as membership and foundation publications at a reduced price. The eligibility of newspapers and magazines for reductions is decided by OFCOM.

Requirements

Letters and parcels are subject to strict delivery time requirements by international standards: Swiss Post must deliver 97% of letters and 95% of parcels on time. Customers can post individual items covered by the universal service at branches and branches with partner, and also using the home delivery service. The access points for postal services must be reachable within 20 minutes on foot or by public transport tor 90% of the population. In areas where Swiss Post offers a home delivery service, they must be less than 30 minutes away.
