Branches and service points in the Canton of Ticino
Swiss Post is making changes to and expanding the network in the Canton of Ticino. The cornerstones of the postal network in the canton have been established following discussions with cantonal representatives. This includes 61 post branches which will be guaranteed until at least 2020. In the next phase, Swiss Post will drive forward the expansion of up to 17 additional access points and address the future of the other post branches in dialogue with the municipalities.
Swiss Post is developing its access points in intensive dialogue with politicians, the business community and the public. It is seeking to establish an ideal mix of self-operated branches, branches with partners, access points for business customers, and additional acceptance and collection points. Swiss Post will also start the process of considering the future of the other post branches which have not yet been guaranteed. It will approach this by carefully examining each case individually. The primary focus will be on establishing branches with partners. The benefit of branches with partners is that customers enjoy a wide range of postal services and attractive opening hours. This format is popular and, thanks to cooperation with local partners, helps to improve the infrastructure of the village or district.
Implementation in dialogue with the municipalities and public
Swiss Post will implement the plans over the next four years based on a trusted approach in direct dialogue with the municipalities. It will avoid closing post branches without providing replacements. Swiss Post and the municipalities will announce their jointly defined solution as soon as discussions have been concluded. The public will be notified about future local postal services at an information event on location.
Swiss Post recognizes its social responsibility
Swiss Post is making every effort to avoid redundancies through the restructuring of the postal network. As usual, it will recognize its social responsibility in all cases and seek suitable solutions with the employees concerned. The Swiss Post redundancy plan negotiated with the trade unions will be applied as soon as employees are affected by changes to the organizational structure. Measures aimed at securing employment should be provided wherever possible.
In addition, the following measures are planned:
- Implementation of a jobs website (vacant positions within Swiss Post)
- Targeted basic and advanced training
- Outplacement for solutions outside Swiss Post
