Here’s how it works

Swiss Post employees compare the person standing before them with the person on the identification document.

Swiss Post employees scan the identification document presented.

The ID check system checks the validity and authenticity of the identification document.

The customer’s personal data is checked by means of OCR (automatic reading of the ID card data) and corrected if necessary.

If the customer’s personal signature is required for identification (confirmation, contract signing), the necessary document can be printed out and signed by the customer.

Depending on the identification process, the customer receives a control document.
Who is this service for and preconditions
This service is available to you in our self-operated branches. Personal identification and contract signing only applies to private individuals
The “ID check in the branch” service works on a contract basis.
Important information
The following ID documents are accepted for the identification process:
- Passport
- Identity card
- Additional ID documents depending on the individual case
Important information:
The ID document must be signed.
Identification documents that have expired can be accepted on condition that the person at the counter is recognizable as the same person on the ID document. Exceptions to this are residency permits (foreigners’ residency permits) for Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein and the identity card from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).
