Swiss Post in the digitized 24/7 village shop
Shopping around the clock, 24/7 concept: in the mountains, more and more village shops are relying on digitization. Innovative concepts can help avoid store closures, which benefits both local people and tourists. Swiss Post can provide vital support here. That’s illustrated by the example of Surselva in the Canton of Graubünden.

In Andiast, in the Surselva region of the Canton of Graubünden, around 200 people live at just under 1,200 meters above sea level. The slightly lower-lying village of Waltensburg/Vuorz has around 330 inhabitants. Village shops play a vital role in mountain villages in places like Surselva. They provide local people and tourists with essential food items and are often the only place to meet for a good chat. But these stores are struggling. They have a modest number of customers and have to compete with lots of alternative ways of shopping. Their closure makes these places less attractive destinations.
The example in Surselva shows how to avoid closure and put the business on a solid footing. Both village shops are making full use of digitization and are working with Swiss Post. A special, customized solution was developed for them. Both shops are now open around the clock.
