Traditional skilled trades

How many people are still learning a traditional skilled trade, such as shoemaking, violin-making, blacksmithing, basket-weaving or wickerwork designing, today? Not many. Only a handful of apprentices per year enter the trades shown in the stamp designs. These professions are therefore known as rare trades. Although these traditional trades have become rare, they are still taught by experienced professionals and embraced with great enthusiasm by young people. They stand for ever-evolving traditions and are still deeply rooted in our everyday lives. This set pays tribute to the knowledge and skills passed on through generations and the timeless beauty of the crafted objects, as testaments to experience, care and dedication.
