FAQs about the order pen

The order pen is used to scan a code. The code is transmitted to Swiss Post via the LoRaWAN network, triggering the ordering of a product or service.

Orders placed by mistake can be cancelled by scanning the cancellation code on the tip card (recycle bin symbol). Please note that by scanning this symbol, all outstanding orders will be cancelled free of charge. This means that any orders you wish to remain valid will have to be placed again.

If you want to receive confirmation of your order by e-mail or SMS, you can also register your order pen at swisspost.ch/myorderpen.

No, that’s what the tip card is for. You can use it to place various orders. Select the symbol on the tip card which matches the postal service you need. Only one order pen will be delivered to each household.

No. You can store the order pen in any location in your home. Please ensure that no unintended orders are made (e.g. by children).

Yes. The order pen does not require an Internet connection, as it uses Swisscom’s long range wide area network (LoRaWAN).

Please test whether the order pen is transmitting data by using it near a window or in another room. You will find the corresponding symbol for the test scan on the tip card.

If the order pen still does not work, please call the Swiss Post Contact Center on +41 848 888 888 (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., CHF 0.08 per minute). You can also use the home delivery service online or by phone (tel.: +41 848 888 888, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., CHF 0.08 per minute).

Customers in an area with home delivery service will in future be able to choose between placing orders online, using an order pen, or ordering by phone via the Swiss Post Contact Center (tel.: +41 848 888 888, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., CHF 0.08 per minute).

Accessibility options mean that the service is also fully available to people with disabilities.

The data is transmitted securely using AES-128 encryption.

The order pen runs on a battery. The battery will last up to 10 years, depending on use.

The order pen transmits data using Swisscom’s long range wide area network. This is a low-frequency radio network for the “Internet of Things”. The radiation exposure that occurs is comparable to that of a weather station. At maximum transmitter power, the pen reaches approximately the level of a conventional Wi-Fi router. Because of the low data volumes and the transmission method used, the data can still be transmitted across several kilometres.

In contrast to most other technologies, the order pen transmits only when touching the button and once every 72 hours. Depending on the location, each transmission lasts between 26 milliseconds and 1.4 seconds. Only this method makes it possible for the order pen to run for years on a single battery.

This means that the maximum transmitter power of the LoRaWAN order pen lies well below the limits that are currently considered to be safe for people’s health.

All customers within the home delivery service area can use the order pen.

No. Because the order pen needs to be held against the tip card while simultaneously holding down the button, it is almost impossible to place an order by accident.
