Post SuisseID promotes digital contact with authorities
With its e-post products, Swiss Post is one of the leading e-government service providers. With Post SuisseID it offers administrative councils and municipalities the opportunity to provide their citizens with a means of dealing with authorities electronically, in addition to traditional counter services. The Jura canton recently implemented a virtual counter and the commune of Kerzers launched an electronic account.
The commune of Kerzers (Fribourg) introduced a digital account (eKonto) at the beginning of June. The Jura canton has also decided to communicate with its citizens digitally from now on. With Post SuisseID, released by Swiss Post, a secure login and unique authentication at the virtual counter is guaranteed. This is in line with citizens' growing need for a service offer that is available to them 24/7.
Virtual counter and eKonto for citizens
The Jura administrative council opened its virtual counter at the beginning of June. For the time being, services are offered in four different areas, including, for example, notifications of pension payments, status checks at the tax office as well as postponements of demonstration appointments at the road traffic licensing department. Even a fishing or hunting licence can be applied for at the environment department. The service catalogue will be expanded further. The Jura canton’s IT department has developed the virtual counter in cooperation with Artionet Web Agency.
At the same time, the commune of Kerzers has also introduced the eKonto. In their personal account, citizens can verify their contact details and manage them themselves to some extent. The steps for further development will be planned in close cooperation with the two partners, Ruf Informatik Ltd and Swiss Post.
Secure login process thanks to Post SuisseID
The virtual commune counter is accessible via Post SuisseID. Citizens of Kerzers have direct access to the commune's applications with Post SuisseID. The services offered by the Jura canton can also be used exclusively with the electronic identity.
The first standardised electronic identification in Switzerland assists authorities and private individuals in the secure and efficient handling of confidential data. In addition to secure authentication, a legally binding electronic signature can also be created. With the Post SuisseID, Swiss Post contributes to the development of the online administration as stipulated in the Swiss e-government strategy adopted in 2007.
Administrative councils are becoming more efficient and more customer-oriented
The virtual counter facilitates administration, saves time and increases interaction between administrative councils and citizens through forums or subscription services, surveys, polls or eParticipation. eGovernment makes an important contribution to improving the quality of a location.
