Swiss Post punctual in 2023

Letters, parcels and newspapers arrived on time in 2023. That’s the conclusion drawn from measurements of mail delivery times in Switzerland. To ensure that the figures remain clear in the long term, the measurement methodology for letters and parcels was adjusted in line with regulatory requirements in 2023, as agreed with the Federal Postal Services Commission (PostCom).

Letters on time…

Swiss Post delivered 1.64 billion letters in 2023. 97.3 percent of A Mail letters and 99.5 percent of B Mail letters reached the country’s letter boxes on time. These figures comply with the legal provisions. This means that the quality target set out in law has been achieved.

Measurement Target 2023* 2022
A Mail / P+1* 97% 97.3% 97.2%
B Mail / P+3* 97% 99.5% 99.3%

*Figures measured in accordance with the legal requirements (posting day + working days) and in accordance with the processing times for Swiss Post products.

…and parcels as well

Parcel delivery was also punctual: 95.7 percent of Priority parcels and 99.6 percent of Economy parcels were delivered on time, in compliance with the law. Targets were met once again.

Measurement Target 2023* 2022
PostPac Priority / P+1* 95% 95.7% 95.7%
PostPac Economy / P+3* 95% 99.6% 96.9%

*Figures measured in accordance with the legal requirements (posting day + working days) and in accordance with the processing times for Swiss Post products.

Since 2022, Swiss Post has also been measuring the punctuality of subscription newspapers. The measurement has been applied in regions where there is no early-morning distribution and newspapers must be delivered before 12.30 p.m. With a punctuality rate of 98.5 percent, the quality target of 95 percent was also exceeded by a wide margin.

Measurement method adjusted as of 2023

In agreement with PostComTarget not accessible, the method for measuring the punctuality of letters and parcels in Switzerland has been adjusted. It now complies with the processing times set out in the Postal Services Ordinance (PostOTarget not accessible). This involves two changes: non-Priority parcels must be delivered within three working days to be considered on time. That’s one day more than before. Another change is that Saturdays are no longer considered as posting days for letters. However, the conditions for Swiss Post products remain unchanged.
