Plastic packaging and the environment
A better life cycle assessment than paper packaging
Using classic plastic packaging to package goods is currently a hotly debated practice. We are seeing more and more market and public demand for environmentally friendly alternatives, or indeed for deliveries that don’t use any packaging at all. At the same time, recipients expect their parcels to be delivered in mint condition whatever the weather. This is a challenge to all senders.
The life cycle assessment for certain types of plastic packaging is better than for paper packaging. You can find more information, including on Swiss Post’s role when it comes to packaging mail items, in these documents:

Goods in letters
Do you want to send goods such as keys or USB sticks as letters? Always choose secure packaging such as bubble wrap or cardboard envelopes.
Send the goods with additional security as a letter with delivery tracking (A Mail Plus) or as a signed-for letter (registered mail).
