SwissID also fulfils the requirements of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This compliance is demonstrated by regular audits. All data is encrypted and remains entirely in Switzerland.
The security of customer data is a top priority at Swiss Post:

Fraud attempts on the Internet are increasingly targeting unwary users. The aim is to obtain sensitive data from these persons. You can find out what to be aware of and where to get help in suspicious cases under “Phishing and other fraud attempts on the Internet”.
SwissID has nothing to do with the e-ID Act. The e-ID Act was about a state electronic identity. SwissID is a simple and certified login solution for Swiss Post’s online customer area.
No, to log in with Swiss Post, there is no need to verify your identity with an ID document or passport. You can easily create your personal account. All that’s needed is your name and e-mail address. SwissID operates three different identity levels. The identity level you need depends on the services you want to use.
- Self-declared identity: Personal SwissID account, where you must enter your title, name and e-mail address. Self-declared identity gives you access to online applications (e.g. Swiss Post online services) that do not require proof of identity.
- Verified identity level 1: Personal SwissID account for which you must identify yourself online. Verified identity level 1 gives you access to online portals for insurance companies, pension funds or e-commerce platforms. You can also use it to order an extract from the debt collection register directly via the SwissID App.
- Verified identity level 2: Personal SwissID account, for which you must identify yourself online or present yourself in person. With verified identity level 2, you can sign contracts using a qualified electronic signature and access the electronic patient record.
